Full Time: 2 academic years (60 ECTS per year)

Entry Criteria: a Bachelor's (or higher) degree plus a university-level certificate of proficiency in two foreign languages. The programme is designed for native and near-native speakers of Russian who have a high level of competence in two FLs, one of them English.

Languages of Instruction: Russian and English/German/French.

Programme Overview:

Our 2-year Master programme is designed to provide a thorough grounding in the full breadth and depth of linguistic theory and FL teaching methodology. It is an advanced interdisciplinary programme offering courses in discourse analysis with the focus on cognitive linguistics, and a significant research component, with view to applying the results of research to advanced (tertiary-level) language teaching.

Upon graduation you can continue research at the doctoral level or claim academic jobs at universities.

At the end of your studies you will have an oral final examination in the theory of your two languages.You will also give a viva presentation of your Master's Thesis.

Year 1

In the first year you will reinforce your proficiency in two foreign languages and discourse analysis. The theoretical component covers History and Methodology of Scholarship, Pedagogy and Psychology of Higher Education and the Theory of Text and Discourse. In the second semester, you will start your independent research project, leading to the Master’s thesis in your second year.

Year 2

The second year includes advanced language training in FL1 and FL2 and targets skills necessary for processing and generating scholarly texts in the field of Linguistics. By the end of the year you are expected to finalise work on your Master’s thesis that is to be of both academic and practical value.
