If you want to explore deeply and broadly a variety of theological fields and religious traditions in their historical and contemporary contexts, languages, literature, arts and philosophy, if you want to know how academic study of sacred texts helps to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and overcome conflicts, if you are eager to contribute to constructive and positive interaction between people of different faiths and/or spiritual or humanistic beliefs, at both the individual and institutional levels, this programme is for you.

Programme Overview

As globalization brings about pluralization in the religious sphere, bringing other world religions, such as Islam and other Asian traditions, to the West, more experts are needed to foster interreligious dialogue, to promote social cohesion in society as a whole and more specifically in schools, organizations and companies.

Uniquely, this advanced interdisciplinary programme makes an emphasis on intercultural experience and combination of theology and practice.

It develops breadth of knowledge and critical understanding of theological disciplines, cultivates strong skills in the study and interpretation of the Scripture, and develops an understanding of the origin and growth of the Christian tradition. It enables students to reflect critically on the interaction of Christians with people of other religions, as well as to analyse the theological, social, and political contexts of intercultural processes.

The skills you will develop are highly relevant regardless of the path you take. You will learn to understand other people’s viewpoints, to communicate and debate effectively. You will be able to work in public or church consulting groups, in schools or educational centres. You can also be engaged in research or teaching, or work as an interpreter or translator in the field of theology and related disciplines.

The programme gives you the solid groundwork you need for further doctoral study if that’s your goal.

At the end of your studies you will give a viva presentation of your graduation research paper (Master's Thesis).
